- Some people are perfectly comfortable going to the dentist for any reason. But there are many others who feel anything from mild anxiety to panic at the thought of an upcoming dental appointment, whether it is a cleaning and exam or dental surgery. While dental anxiety may be common, if you skip your dental appointments for any reason, you not only place your mouth and teeth at risk, but you can develop other health problems as a result. If you have any fear about your procedure, you should take time to talk with our dentist, Dr. Gary K. Walden and his staff about what can be done to make your visit easier.
One way to take the anxiety out of your appointment is through the use of nitrous oxide or laughing gas. Nitrous oxide has been widely used by dentists for many years and many dentists prefer it when sedating children. The gas is mixed with oxygen and administered through a mask placed over your nose. As the gas takes effect, you will feel relaxed, but you will remain conscious and can still communicate with the dentist if you need to do so. The effects of the gas wear off within minutes after it is removed, and no recovery time is needed.
If sitting in the dentist’s chair is an uncomfortable experience for you, nitrous oxide may be able to help your relax during your procedure. To learn more, or to a schedule an appointment for yourself or any member of your family at Family Dental Care in Bowling Green, Kentucky, call 270.282.0909.
